World Trade Centre station (R22) serves Dubai’s exhibition quarter: the DWTC halls that host GITEX, Gulfood, Arab Health and the rest of the region’s mega-events are a signed walk from the platforms, with the One Central office district in between. Elevated on the Red Line’s central stretch, fare zone 6.
Event-day survival
On show days this station runs at airport intensity – and it is still, decisively, the right way in. Exhibition parking queues onto Sheikh Zayed Road; the metro walks past all of it. Three event-day rules: arrive before 9:30 AM to beat the badge-queue crush; at closing (typically 5-6 PM), either leave 20 minutes early or wait 20 minutes out – the platform meters the surge; and the walk to the far halls (Za’abeel side) is longer than the map suggests, so add ten minutes to whatever your hall number implies.
The tower that started it all
The original Sheikh Rashid Tower – the 1979 World Trade Centre that appears on the AED 100 note – still anchors the complex, a piece of pre-boom Dubai standing among its descendants. The One Central campus around it has grown into a proper district: offices, the Museum of the Future within a walkable stretch (though Emirates Towers station is a touch closer), and a hotel band (Ibis/Novotel on-site) that fills and empties with the event calendar.
Beyond the halls
The Dubai Frame and Zabeel Park sit one stop away at Max station; Downtown two stops. The station’s own neighbourhood is business-first – its restaurants live inside One Central and the hotels – so for an evening, ride rather than wander.
Local tips
- GITEX week (October) is the network’s single biggest demand spike – Gold Class earns its double fare, and the 9 AM inbound crush is real in both cabins.
- Hotel hack: event-week rates here triple; Al Rigga or BurJuman (10-12 minutes away) hold sane prices with a straight ride in.
- Badge pickup: most big shows run registration desks near the metro-side entrance – do it the afternoon before if your badge allows.
- Zone 6 position: Downtown, DIFC and Bur Dubai are all 1-zone AED 3 hops.
