Al Rigga station (R17) drops you into the middle of Deira’s most walkable evening district: Al Rigga Street’s restaurants, the Al Ghurair Centre, Reef Mall and a dense band of mid-range hotels are all within a few minutes on foot. Underground, fare zone 5, two stops from the airport side’s City Centre Deira and one from Union.

The budget-traveller’s home station

More visitors sleep within walking distance of Al Rigga than almost any other station – the Muraqqabat/Rigga hotel belt is Dubai’s classic value district, fifteen minutes from the airport with the whole network one escalator away. If you are choosing a hotel for metro convenience without Downtown prices, filtering for “walking distance to Al Rigga” is the honest local trick.

The station is underground, which in August matters more than anything else: platform-to-street exposure is minimal, and you step straight into the air-conditioned belt of hotels, exchange houses and all-night pharmacies that defines the district.

Eating on Rigga Street

The street above runs shawarma counters, Lebanese grills, South Indian thali houses, Filipino bakeries and late-night juice stands shoulder to shoulder – open late every night and genuinely busy at 11 PM. Prices run a third of Downtown’s. The metro’s midnight close (1 AM after Fridays) matches the street’s rhythm almost perfectly; this is one of the few districts where ending a night by metro is the default, not the fallback.

Getting your bearings

Exits serve both sides of Al Rigga Road; the Al Ghurair Centre – Dubai’s oldest mall, recently refreshed – anchors the western end toward Union, and Reef Mall sits north. The Clocktower roundabout, Deira’s mid-century landmark, is a ten-minute walk east. For the souqs, ride to Union and change to the Green Line (or walk twenty minutes through workaday Deira, which has its own charm in cool months).

Local tips

  • Airport in six minutes: zone 5 covers Al Rigga to both DXB stations – a 1-zone AED 3 fare. Cheaper than any other airport connection in Dubai.
  • Underground and cool: platform-to-street exposure here is minimal – in August, that matters more than anything else on this page.
  • Ramadan evenings transform Rigga Street after iftar – if you are here during the month, this is the free show.
  • Peak note: mornings toward Downtown pack early; boarding one stop back at City Centre Deira occasionally wins a seat.

Getting here and onward

Al Rigga is zone 5 and central on the Red Line’s Deira arc – four stops from the airport at a 1-zone AED 3 fare, the cheapest airport connection in Dubai, and one stop from Union’s Green Line interchange. There is no tram or marine link; the density means most trips here start on foot or with a short taxi.
