Business Bay station (R26) serves Downtown’s harder-working southern neighbour: the canal-side towers, Bay Avenue, and a hotel cluster – led by the vast JW Marriott Marquis – that often undercuts Downtown rates while sitting one stop from the Burj Khalifa. Elevated, fare zone 6, on the Red Line’s central stretch. In 2032 it becomes one of the Gold Line’s confirmed interchanges.
One stop from the Burj, half the price
The practical play most visitors miss: Business Bay hotels price like a business district (soft weekends, sharp rates) while Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is a single AED 3 stop away. If your Dubai plan is Downtown-heavy, staying here and treating R25-R26 as a shuttle is the best price-to-position trade on the network.
The canal side
The Dubai Water Canal boardwalk is the area’s own attraction: a full loop of the Bay’s waterfront with the Downtown skyline mirrored in the water, best an hour before sunset. Bay Avenue’s cafes and the Marasi promenade fill the evenings. It is a district that works at street level in a way Sheikh Zayed Road never quite does – flat, walkable, and lit.
A station about to matter much more
Business Bay is a confirmed Gold Line interchange (2032) – one of only three announced. When the fully underground line arrives, this becomes the transfer point between the Red Line spine and the new coastal corridor, and the RTA projects it will relieve the BurJuman-to-Garmin (formerly ONPASSIVE) crush by nearly a quarter. Local tips
- Walking to the Burj Khalifa area: possible but longer than it looks (30-40 minutes with road crossings) – the one-stop train wins in any month that isn’t January.
- Marriott Marquis events: conference season floods the station at odd hours; the Gold cabin earns its fare here more than anywhere outside the airport runs.
- Peak flows: as a business district, mornings fill inbound and evenings outbound – opposite to the tourist tide, which often makes your direction the empty one.
- Canal photography: the waterfall under Sheikh Zayed Road bridge (illuminated at night) is a 15-minute boardwalk stroll from the station.
